Yoro Onsen Honkan

Yoro Onsen is deep under Onomichi and it was discovered in 1960 as the result of searching for good water for sake.
Yoro Onsen Honkan was built at that time as a ryokan. The building has been renewed while maintaining the good part of the old building; the entrance, the lobby, the large resting room for onsen visitors, the small shop area at the watcher's seat, the tiled bath room and etc., all these give an onsen nostalgic look and fill the building with retro atmosphere.
There are 3 types of guest rooms; original Japanese rooms (without a toilet) and renewed Japanese rooms which has a toilet, the host always wanted, and western rooms. Renewed rooms are designed to be a good fit with the whole ryokan and well accepted by the guests.
The hot water of the onsen has higher content of radon and it warms up your body temperature without any distinctive smell or color. Local people often come to this onsen and it is a friendly place like community bath or public bath. Old ladies from the local community get together here and create a warm and cheerful atmosphere. This is the way this ryokan is.
And this ryokan has a good reputation for the dishes. The host cooks dishes using fresh seasonal fish from Onomichi as well as various foods in season from the mountains because of where it is located. The host says "when my guests depart from here, they say “Gochisousamadesita"(thank you for the meals). This episode represents how the dishes are accepted by the guests.
Onomichi has the strong image of the sea, and onsen may not come to your mind first place. This friendly ryokyan makes your stay relaxed so you can unwind.
