The road which runs northward from the Onomichi cable car station is called Nagae-dou. This road, connected San-yo district and San-in district, was called Izumo-kaidou in the Edo period and used as a transportation route for silver from Iwami. Even now, there are old town houses and earthen storehouses in Nagae. A short distance away from Nagae street, there is an old private house which was remade into the inn named "moons cafe".
The owner has repaired a good designing building which were a tea ceremony room steadily by himself for three years. It has refurbished for comfortable stay, especially kitchen and bathroom, while keeping the good quality of an old building.
This two-storied Japanese style house is for a whole house rent. The building is a purely Japanese style private house and its garden has a terrace.
The down-stair part is digging style living and dining room. It's just like a cafe as the name "moons cafe" suggests. The kitchen is equipped with IH cooking heater and there is a complete set of kitchen utensils to cook. Beautiful glass doors look somehow modern.
A space of Japanese style room on the second floor is kept unchanged and you can look over Nagae town from there. This space make you feel as if you are a novelist sojourning there. The flavor of old things such as elaborate-designed rails, transoms and old furniture make you feel relaxed. A meal service is not available, so you can enjoy dining out or cooking by yourself at the inn.
The reason why the owner named this inn "moons cafe" is that he hopes his guests to have relaxed and quiet time with gazing at the moon, yet it is located near a cable car station and famous Onomichi ramen restaurants. He suggests to buy some tasty sweets and foods of Omomichi and make yourself at home. Besides, he hope that this space will be your base to communicate with the town of Onomichi. This is the inn where you can enjoy a daily life in Onomichi.
