Kannawa Onsen has the largest number of hot spring inn and is the most famous area of all hot springs in Beppu. This hot-spring area with a flavor of downtown was opened 1270s. This area is crowded with hot spring inns within a 300-meter radius from Kannnawa public steam bath, the center of this area. Around the inn, there are cats taking a nap beside a stone pavement giving off steam, cafe, delicatessen, vegetable shop selling steamed eggs, popular theater inn, spring sources with billowing steam and scattered public bathes. This town streets will makes you have a nostalgic feel even if it is your first visit there.
There are three bathes in this inn; a big stone bath, a bath surrounded by rocks and an open-air bath with a rare bamboo "Kinmeimousou" in the background. All bathes are small and for family use, you can have them to yourself without constraint. In addition, there is no time restriction. The bathes of this inn have three times as many hot spring components as those of normal hot springs, and this feature is appreciated by hot-spring lovers.
We can offer dinner, however, we recommend you to stay only and have dinner at a restaurant around Kannnawa. You can enjoy the whole town including hot springs. Besides, this area is more adapted for a longer stay than for a one-night stay if you have time.
