| Features | Sansuien has three styles of Japanese garden: "Chisen Garden" (pond fountain garden), "Roji" (garden next to the teahouse), and "Karesansui"(garden with dry landscape). The pond fountain garden and moat were built around 1920, and the garden next to the teahouse and the one with dry landscape were built around 1955. These three gardens have received high praise from experts as "each is continuous but independent". The abundant planting of trees (pines and thread leaf false cypress, etc.), shrubs (gardenia and azaleas, etc.) and ground-cover plant (Ardisia japonica and Liriope muscari, etc.) creates landscapes of four seasons. |
