Ryokan Sawaki

Enjoy the Inland Sea food.

Ryokan Sawaki is located near a historic shrine, Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima and in the old days the ryokan had many guests who visited the shrine and tourists on ships. (The approach from the port to the shrine has an old look with a nostalgic air) The good old days on the approach ended when the road for cars was built. Nowadays, tourists are still attracted by Ryokan Sawaki because of its dishes.
Sawaki used to run a dinner at the approach and has a rich knowledge about fish. For instance, Sawaki selects the same fish from different ports and islands like "This one comes from Omishima port and that one is from the neighbor island, Hakatajima". The reason is that the tastes and meats are different depending on where the fish come from. They serve the "this-is-the-Seto-Inland-Sea-food" dishes using sea bream and they look delicious. Indeed, the dishes are delicious as expected from its looks and quality of food is superior. The host is a relaxed parson but it is impressive to see when he is in the kitchen, he is quick and directive. The guests can count on the dish he prepares.
Sawaki doesn't take reservation during the year-end/new year holidays and Obon holidays. Because that is the time many local people who left the island come home and Sawaki wants to offer accommodation for them. For Sawaki, running a ryokan is not just a business but also provides a place for local people. This is one of characteristics of islanders as well as one of the reasons Sawaki attracts tourists.
