Onfunayado Sowaka-ro

Overlook the port and town for awaiting a favorable tide.

Speaking of Tomonoura, it is the port town where the boats moving by the rise and fall of the tides used to have waited for a favorable tide. In addition, it is the only town in the country where we can see a complete set of the harbor facilities of the Edo period, consisting of 'joya-to' (all-night street lamp), 'gangi' (stair-like landing area), 'hatoba' (wharf), 'tadeba' (old dock) and 'funa-bansho' (old coast guard station). Recently, it is also known as a stage for animated films, such as "Ponyo on the cliff".

Please check in at the sister-inn "Onfunayado Iroha" and go to the inn. It is located in a small elevated area about 50 steps up. This location is the main attraction of this inn. You can obtain an 180-degree view through the all-glass window of the seaside room and look across the broad panorama of the town and the port. There is an air created by the simple life in the port town, and the flow of time there matches the journey. "A glimpse into the life and people of the place" is one of the best things of "journey". It is a place where you will feel like leaving yourself to the timeline of this town and just looking at the sun rising and setting through the window of the hotel.

This inn was a villa built in the 1910s. On the renovation, the owner thought "we borrow the building of the time as it is" and tried to preserve it in its original condition as much as possible. The rain leak mark of the ceiling is one of the examples. The pattern of the leak is like an annual ring of a house, and it is a sign that the building has been there over a long time. The building built in an early 20th century has remembered many encounters and partings in Tomonoura where the tides meet and part each other. From now on, it will continue to curve a wonderful encounter in the annual ring of the house as a hotel.
