Tobishimakan

Touring the sea, the islands, and going around by boat.

Tobishima-kaido is a sea route that connects seven islands with seven bridges. “Tobishimakan” is located on Osakishimojima Island, four bridges over from Hiroshima Prefecture on the main island of Japan. It was the first Seaside Station built in Japan adjacent to Ocho Port. It has accommodations, a restaurant and a store. A Seaside Station is ship mooring facility open to the public, and there are about 180 of them throughout Japan. Moorings are free and must be reserved in advance.

All six Western-style rooms face the ocean, and the rooms have private terraces where you can enjoy the scent of the ocean and the sound of the waves. You can also wander out for a walk directly from the terrace. You can enjoy the many islands and their beauty up close. The islands are scattered like stepping stones in a garden, which is where the name Tobishima-kaido comes from.

The best part of this stay is the “Nottoko Cruise”. The cruise goes between the adjacent Ocho Port and Akashi Port on Osakikamijima island but does not disembark at Akashi Port. It is a cruise only to be enjoyed while on board. The casual 40-minute round-trip boat ride will be a relaxing and refreshing way to feel the sea breeze.

Renting a bicycle and touring the island is also recommended. A short ride from Osakishimojima Island, across the seventh bridge, is Okamura Island at the end of the Tobishima-kaido. The Okamura Ohashi Bridge has a pedestrian walkway attached to it and can be crossed on foot. Visitors can also take a ferry from Okamura Port to Munakata Port on Omishima Island to reach the Shimanami-kaido.

Room | Tobishimakan
The guest room is a Western-style twin room. The greatest feature of this room is that you can go out to the seaside from the terrace of your room. You can take a walk directly outside from your room and watch the sunset or sunrise. Also, the “Middle Seto Bridge,” one of the two bridges that served as the model for the animated movie “A Letter to Momo,” is right in front of the room.

Meals will be served at the on-site restaurant. Dinner will be an obanzai-like set meal prepared by the island's mothers, and breakfast will be a café-style meal consisting mainly of pizza toast and soup.
